Isadora Duncan dance
Isadora Duncan (1877 or 1878-1927), born in California, is regarded as a pioneer of modern contemporary dance and was acclaimed across Europe and the United States. Inspired by Greek art, she danced barefoot in light tunics, favouring natural movements such as running, skipping and jumping over codified ballet steps, and held that movement springs from the solar plexus.
In 1904 she opened a school at Grunewald, Berlin, whose pupils became known as the Isadorables, and later founded schools in Paris and Moscow. Her dances live on through groups such as the Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation in New York, established in 1980, whose company performs more than eighty Duncan dances and offers classes and certification.
