Béjart Ballet

Maurice Béjart (1927-2007) founded the Ballet of the 20th Century in Brussels and in 1987 settled in Lausanne, where the company became Béjart Ballet Lausanne. After his death Gil Roman, who had worked with him for thirty years, led it as artistic director from 2007 until November 2021.

The repertoire includes large-scale works such as Boléro, The Rite of Spring, The Ninth Symphony, Ballet for Life and Piaf, staged by a company known for filling vast venues. The Maurice Béjart Foundation, founded in 2007, protects his name and the intellectual property of his work and supports the company; a school, the Rudra Béjart School, operates in Lausanne.
